Ball bearings are a type of rolling bearing (or rolling-element bearing) with balls for rolling elements. Intuitively, the use of balls makes sense because their roundness greatly reduces contact between surfaces. But it also means that, all things equal, ball bearings have less load-bearing capacity than other rolling bearings.
